    Very good

The location was lovely and the hotel was very nice. The room was well decorated and very comfortable and clean

We met for a family reunion - 4 couples all middle aged. We had a nice evening meal but the courses were luke warm only and the service was on the one hand over fussy (we do not need to have our napkins placed on our knees) and on the other hand poor (my sister had tea splashed over her and although we asked for more bread at breakfast the person who asked was given one slice and then the basket was taken away!). On the Saturday evening the 8 of us were sitting in the bar having a quiet drink and chat and the bar was shut at 10.30 p.m.! This is disgraceful for a Saturday night when there are residents in the bar who are drinking in (very expensive) rounds.

    Fabulous

The staff were professional and friendly, breakfasts were excellent. Good location, close to some great walks where you can leave your car in the hotel car park. We were at the back of the hotel so we did not hear any noise from the main road. Dining room pleasant to eat in. Plenty of parking and just a short walk to Grasmere centre.

The only issues were the condition of the corridors and for the price of the Excecutive room it was not of the standard I would expect. The bathroom was small and the tiling needed re doing and the sink was stained. Perhaps a cheaper price for this room would be better.

    Very good

Very freindly staff at every level, reception, bar, breakfast service and night porter. They took the trouble to chat as if this was our local and not just weekend guests. We felt very welcome and at home because of this. Many many thanks to the staff. The bed was very very comfortable.

The rooms seemed to be past their best, could do with a refurbishment. We thought we paid a lot of money for two nights stay and were expecting a little more luxury for that price. Booking into a "pub" we expected a more informal atmosphere in the bar but it really did feel like a hotel and restaurant, but the staff made up for the atmosphere.

    Fabulous

We enjoyed the peace & quiet. We were on our wedding anniversary,(35yrs).& on the same day as the royal couple. We didn't receive any preferential treatments, but we did enjoy are stay.

All the staff were friendly, helpful & very cheerful, nothing was to much trouble for them.however we did think £8.50 for 2 bottles of still water was very, very expensive. This did shock us.

    Exceptional

The welcoming log fire in the reception area, on our return from a long day of walking in the mountains. We had remembered this from a previous visit.

Menu become more limited as the weekend went on.

    Fabulous

We liked the locality. We have a set of 6 table placemats of "old english pubs"and decided to make our trip to the U.K. a little different and visit all 6 of them.

We enjoyed the hotel but were a little dissapointed with our meal, having chosen lamb we found it to be very dry and it should be moist.

Friendly staff partricularly Colin in bar and waitresses. Breakfast good, dinner mediocre

Poor value for money. Cheap uncomfortable bed. Room heating "hit and miss". Unable to open room windows as permanently locked. No mens public toilet when function room in use -- does this comply with regulations ??

    Good

Good location for sight seeing and visiting our Friends

The bathroom wanted updating, tiles old and falling off wall - could have been dangerous if fallen off wall whilst in shower. Carpet required cleaning in bedroom, light fittings needed attention. Whole room required in a modern uplift.

    Superb

The best thing about our stay at the Swan Hotel was the attentiveness of the staff. Without exception we felt that all of the staff treated us so well.

Perhaps the bathroom was in need of an update?

    nearness to Grasmere Village

had to email 3 times to get confirmation of booking, my Mother had a stroke and was in Hospital, asked to defer stay, Michelle said she would ask General Manager, never rang back, had to come or lose money. Bed had a stain on base, scruffy corner unit, bathroom tiles need a good clean with bleach. Put in furthest room (41) probably because came at a reduced rate, stayed at Blackpool de vere hotel 2 weeks ago, much better value overall
